There is a top defence academy in Dehradun. Dehradun is known for its residential schools, defence education and coaching facilities and is home to a number of notable defence institutions, including the RIMS, Army School Ghorakhal, IMA, NDA, and others.
National Defence Academy (NDA) – Before proceeding to their respective service academies for additional pre-commission training, cadets of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force train together at the National Defence Academy (NDA), the Indian Armed Forces’ combined defence service training facility. it is located in premnagar Dehradun.
Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) – Located in Doon Valley, Dehradun, India, RIMC is a military institution that accepts both male and female students.
Feeder institutions for the RIMC include the National Defense Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and finally the Indian Armed Forces. Former RIMC students are referred to as “Rimcollians,” and they have attained the highest ranks in the armed forces of Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India. Col. Vikram Kadian serves as the RIMC’s current Commandant.
IMA – Indian Military Academy Officers for the Indian Army are trained at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), which is the country’s first military institution. It is situated in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and was established in 1932 as a result of a recommendation made by a military council headed by General (later Field Marshal) Sir Philip Chetwode. IMA now has 1,650 members in its sanctioned membership, up from a class of 40 male cadets in 1932. Depending on the entry requirements, the training programme for cadets lasts anywhere from three to sixteen months. Cadets who successfully complete the IMA programme are permanently commissioned as Lieutenants in the military.
